OUTLINE - Problem of ESL in VCU

Your solution for 1st problem is not right. ESL programs combine 2 level to study together such as advance 1 and advance 2, or intermediate 1 and intermediate 2. It is very difficult for ESL officer to contact with students due to language barrier. Some students cannot explain and describe their problem. Therefore, How can advisors deal with them? Could you clarify why some classes that ELP offers are not helpful to ELP students? Is that your own opinion or other students? Do you have any evidences to prove for your point.

yeajin:

1.     Problem: Some ELP students are not satisfied with what they are taking.

Solutions

1.     ELP officer should conduct surveys and find problems and then examine what students want to learn.

2.     ELP should makes another test after students get their level

(make sure students get right levels)

3.     ELP should combine level which is 1,2 of each level  into learn and make more level so that students can learn in different levels effectively.

Criteria

1.     If they do the survey for all ELP students, there will pop so many small problems which are not valuable.

2.     Students will lose time and money. Moreover, everything can not perfect even though ELP check knowledge of students

2. Problem: Some students think that ELP officer is not helpful to get information   or when they change their schedules.

     Solutions

     1. Make a program which can help the international students (specific)

     2. ELP officer should contact(?) more with international students

Criteria

1. Cost lots of money to create another program

2. There are already some programs for international students and still  they are not helpful. Improve quality not quantity.

3. Problem: Some classes that ELP offers are not helpful to ELP students

    Solutions

    1. Remove the classes which are unhelpful or combine with other classes
